Ridgid – The Best Table Saw You Can Buy!

Ridgid Table SawIf you are a serious handyman or professional contractor, there is only one name you need to remember, that name is RIDGID. Normally this name is associated with high quality plumbing tools but several years ago they jumped into the carpentry market and with great success. While not all their woodworking tools make the grade, their table saws are exceptional!

RIDGID may not be the name you would associate with high quality table saws, but they make one of the best table saws you can buy for the money. They offer one portable and one stationary. I bought the stationary model 6 years ago at Home Depot for about $700 and it is still going strong after years of serious use.

About 2 years ago I was helping my brother with renovations down in Sooke…we were using his banged up old beaver table saw, you know, the type where micro adjustment is done with a hammer. After a week of this and many rough cuts later, I knew I had to talk him into buying the RIDGID Table saw – which he did… and he has no regrets, like myself, he swears by it and it has become the most productive tool in his shop.

If you are serious about woodworking and cabinet making, the RIDGID will not disappoint. It has power and accuracy equal to the Delta Unisaw, General, Powermatic and many other higher end saws. It is also one of the quietest and vibration free saws you can find. The fence is a thing of beauty and the fence design allows 30 In. right and 20 In. left rip capacity for wider materials – it remains accurate and smooth for years.

For more information on this beauty, visit HomeDepot.ca for full details and other reviews (all great). The price for the stationary saw is about $800 and $500 for the portable unit with stand (which has tons of great reviews as well), and $369 without the stand.

  • My Favorite Magazines!

When it comes to woodworking and home repairs, two magazines stand out from all the others, Fine Woodworking and Fine Homebuilding. I have collected these for years and always enjoy going back to old issues and checking out various projects and tips. The quality is high and you'll find these magazines feel more like book quality.

Turning the pages of Fine Woodworking or Fine Homebuilding is like a kid in a candy store - so much cool stuff you just have to try. Over all I give these magazines a rating of 10/10 - some issues 9/10.
